Šī pētījuma mērķis ir izpētīt un analizēt mūsdienu etnisko situāciju Baltijas jūras reģionā, īpašu uzmanību pievēršot Latvijas un Igaunijas jauniešu populācijai, un nonākot pie secinājumiem par iekšējiem un ārējiem faktoriem, kas iespaido jauniešu etniskās identitātes veidošanos. Veidi, kādos jaunieši sajūt un uztver savu etnisko identitāti, tiek pētīti izmantojot padziļinātā interviju metodi. Viedokļi un uzskati par ģimeni, valodas lietojumu, paradumiem un tradīcijām, mēdiju lietošanu, sociālo un politisko aktivitāti un pašidentifikāciju, kuri tika iegūti no daļēji strukturēta intervijām, ļauj izdarīt slēdzienus par etniskās uztveres un modernām tendencēm jauniešu starpā Latvijā un Igaunijā. The aim of this research is to observe and analyse contemporary ethnic situation in Baltic Sea Region, with particular focus on Latvian and Estonian youth population, and to provide conclusions on internal and external factors, influencing the formation of young people’s ethnic identity. The way in which young people feel and perceive their ethnic identity is investigated via the method of in-depth interviews. The opinions and views about family, language use, customs and traditions, media, social and political activity and self-identification gained from the semi-structured interviews, allow to make conclusions about ethnic perceptions and modern tendencies among young people in Latvia and Estonia.
