The theme of the Bachelor paper – Hospital care of patients with brain injuries. Brain injuries are some of the most common and most complicated injuries with high fatality and post-traumatic disability rates. The aim of the Bachelor paper is to examine appropriate care methods provided for patients with brain injury who were transferred from an intensive care unit to a clinical unit for the purpose of further treatment and rehabilitation. The research tasks are as follows: to analyse the relevant literature, to analyse D.E. Orem’s nursing theory in conjunction with the theme of the Bachelor paper, to develop an effective research method, to carry out a pilot study and research, to carry out analysis of data and to formulate conclusions. The research question is: What kind of care is provided for patients with brain injury who were transferred from an intensive care unit to a clinical unit for the purpose of further treatment and rehabilitation? In answer to the question, can make a conclusion that patients with brain injuries require subsequent care – rest-cure providing a sufficient amount of sleep, pain relief, a vital signs monitoring, bedsore prevention, adequate nutrition and fluid intake, hygiene assurance and promotion of self-care. A qualitative research method was used, by the means of a partially structured interview. The Bachelor paper consists of theoretical and research parts and of 4 attachments. The respondents were seven clinical-unit nurses who provide care of patients with brain injury. Keywords: patient, brain injury, care, care problems, rehabilitation, education.
