Galvenie uzdevumi: 1.Noteikt S.aureus nēsāšanas atkarību no medicīnas fakultātes kursa ( otrais kurss, sestais kurss) – tātad no saskares ar slimnīcas vidi. 2.Noteikt S.aureus nēsāšanas atkarību no dzimuma. 3.Noteikt in vitro antagonismu S. aureus un S. epidermidis starpā. Staphylococcus aureus often colonizes in the anterior nares, turning a healthy individual into pathogenic microorganisms’ carrier. Health care workers and medical students, who are subjected to a long period in hospital environment, have a greatest risk of becoming a carrier of S.aureus. Carriers act as permanent source of infection. Staphylococcus infection is most commonly developed in immune-weakened patients, thus carriage is of prime importance among health professional. The aim of the research: to determine the frequency of S.aureus carriage among medical students. The main tasks: 1.To determine S.aureus carriage and medical course (second and sixth course) dependency 2.To determine gender and course dependency of carrying of S.aureus. 3.To determine the antagonistic relationships between S.aureus and S.epidermidis in vitro . Materials and methods: The practical part of this research was carried out in Microbiology Laboratory of Hospital of Traumatology and Orthopedics from November 2015 till April, 2016. 98 students from the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Latvia participated in this prospective research, including 68 pre-clinical students (second-year students) and 30 clinical students (sixth-year students). The nasal swabs collected from anterior nares and isolation and identification of staphylococcus on salt agar were carried out. For determination of microbes antagonism perpendicular stripes method was applied. Results and conclusions: From 98 plantings 28 (28.6%) S.aureus cultures were isolated. 18 S.aureus were isolated from second-year students, and 10 were isolated from sixth-year students. Eight (33.3%) S.aureus carriers were found among the analyzed number of men (n=24) from the second course, and 10 (22.7%) women from the number of women (n=44) were diagnosed with carrying of S.aureus. The second-year students have no statistically significant difference between gender and carrying of S.aureus (p >0.05). Five (55.6%) S.aureus carriers were found among the analyzed number of men (n=9) from the sixth course, and five (23.8%) women from the number of women (n=21) were diagnosed with carrying of S.aureus. Statistically significant difference between gender and carrying of S.aureus (p >0.05) among sixth-year students was not noticed. When analyzing the results of the total number of second and sixth-year students (n=98) participated in the research, it was observed that the allocation of microorganisms’ culture is dependent on the course (p=0.019), but statistically significant difference between the course and carriage of S.aureus only (p>0.05) was not noticed, but carrying of S.aureus is dependent on the gender (p=0.002). When examinating microbes antagonism, the results show that S.aureus has antagonistic activity against the test microbe S.epidermidis.
