Pētījumā piedalījās sievietes vecumā no 20-44 gadiem. Nutrition has an essential role in human life. Especially, when there is rapid growth and development, for example in pregnancy and in early childhood. Unbalanced nutrition affects the normal development of the foetus and increases the susceptibly of illnesses on in life. The proposed hypothesis of the research: The lifestyle of the mother (including dietary habits and physical activities before and after pregnancy) affects the outcome of the newborn’s birth. This is a Quantitative crossover study (descriptive). The research method is a questionnaire. The author of the research interviewed 107 women (30 women were interviewed during pregnancy and 77 were interviewed after pregnancy). The women in the research are between ages 22-44 and are from different cities, towns and villages in Latvia. The research has shown that 77,3% of the women had a normal BMI before pregnancy. Most often the increase of women’ weight during pregnancy was 20 kg. In most cases the weight of the child when born was 3,600 g. The results have shown that Latvian nationality women have heavier children than Russian nationality women (P=0,04). The weight of the child depends on the educational level of the mother (P=0,03). Most of the respondents have breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks daily. Snacks most often include sweets, nuts without salt and sugar, fruit and vegetables. Depending on the weekly consumption of the products, women include cereals, meat and meat products, eggs and sweets at least 1-2 times. Women include fruit and fresh vegetables 6-7 times per week. The results of the research showed statistically significant results between not using red meat in one’s diet and the coherence with increased weight (4100 g) of the child (P=0,023). The more milk was consumed the more the child’s weight decreased (P=0,029). Also the child’s weight decreased if the women included fish and its products in their diet. A statistically significant result exists also between the child’s birth weight and physical activities during pregnancy. Lowering intensity decreases the weight of the child. The research concluded that the dietary habits of pregnant women are varied and the BMI is within the average range. Also the weight of the child is within the average range. The child’s weight is affected by the lifestyle and diet of the mother.
