The primary objective of the European Central Bank is to maintain inflation rates below, but close 2%. Based on inflation dynamics of the past 10 years this aim is not fulfilled. The problem of the low inflation rate of euro area has attracted additional attention to this issue, defining the main drivers of inflation. The aim of this Master Thesis is to determine the key affecting factors for inflation. In order to achieve this aim the main characteristics of the inflation term were researched, price stability criteria was determined, calculation differences was defined between inflation measure approaches. In addition a literature analysis has been conducted, and using the Bayesian vector autoregression model, the factors which affect euro area inflation level were determined. In the process of the research the author came to the conclusion that pre and post economic crisis circumstances had variable effect of chosen factors. Nevertheless the level of inflation mainly depends on global factors as oil price, euro to US dollar exchange rate and the Rest‐of‐the‐World output, leaving less impact on monetary policy and internal demand.
