The aim of the Master’s thesis is to forecast potential evolution of forest ecosystems in urban forest parks in Riga and the develop solutions targeted at preservation of Scot’s pine forest ecosystems. The author of the thesis has carried out the inventory of shrubs, understorey and litter layer in Biķernieki, Jugla and Šmerlis forest parks in Riga. The objectve was to evaluate the density of shrubs and understorey. The obtained results are presented on maps featuring the dominant species and their respective thickness in each plot. The study is focussing on measuring layer the thickness of litter to find out the relationship between the undergrowth, understorey, litter and Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris L.) regeneration capacity. The study contains the overview and analysis of urban forest management practices providing recommendations to improve urban forest management.
