The aim of this research is to determine how conceptual metaphor ensures textual cohesion and coherence thus contributing to the logical unity of the text. The discourse of finance is selected as the field for the empirical analysis, as metaphorical concepts are an essential part of the language of finance and economics. The research is conducted by applying qualitative discourse analysis. This method is selected to provide an in-depth analysis of each of the selected articles to determine how cohesion and coherence are established in each individual text. The results indicate that the presence of one or more conceptual metaphors in the text contributes to the overall textual cohesion and coherence of the discourse. The cohesion is established through the use of reference, reiteration and collocation that help to ensure the links between the surface elements related to the metaphorical concepts expressed in the text. However, coherence is mainly ensured either by the presence of one general metaphor that systematically links both source and target domains, or by various conceptual metaphors that are linked through base metaphor and sub-metaphor relation or parallel structures. The research demonstrates that metaphorical expressions and conceptualization in the discourse of finance do not only contribute to the ornamentation of the text, but also add to the overall structure and composition of the text.
