The aim of the Master Thesis was to determine the feasibility and effectiveness of using guided interactions with horses as a non-pharmaceutical intervention to facilitate development of emotional intelligence (EI) in young children. The participants of the research were 3 children (female), 6 – 8 years, and their parents. Training diaries were analysed on how the development of EI can be facilitated; structured interviews with the parents were conducted. The results indicated possible development of EI during equine-assisted intervention through increased level of key abilities: empathy, self-regulation, motivation, social skills, self-awareness, as well as learning to deal with the identified symptoms of shyness. A self-evaluation form for children attending equine-assisted intervention was designed.
