„barbara ētiskā tēla” rekonstrukcija veidā, kādā to uztvēra senie ķīnieši. Darba
galvenajam uzdevumam, t.i., rekonstruēt „barbara ētisko portretu”.
The Overwiev of the Doctoral Dissertation „The Image of „barbarian” in
Ancient China (according to the sources of Zhou and Western Han dynasties)”
The doctoral dissertation focuses on the relationships between China and its
Northern neighbours in Ancient Times. The goal of this thesis is to reconstruct „an
ethical image of barbarians” within the framework of Ancient China. It was
hypothesized here that the negative image created for outsiders, including
„barbarians”, was based on negative images projected from and within the Chinese
culture.
Chapter One is the introduction, or the lead-in chapter. Its goal is to provide
general information on the relationships between the Ancient Chinese and the
neighbouring tribes. Chapter Two is more detailed and investigates comparisons of
„barbarians” to wild animals that are found in Ancient Chinese literature. The Chapter
is split into two sections. Section One offers semantic analyses of the names assigned
to „barbarian” tribes. Section Two focuses on Chinese metaphors which compare
„barbarians” to wild animals. Chapter Three focuses on the key research interest of
this work, that is, on the reconstruction of „an ethical portrait of a barbarian”. The
image of a „barbarian” was rooted in the principles of the Confucian Ethics.
