Bachelors’ thesis topic – challenges in temporary tracheostomy care. The importance of this topic is determined by the lack of uniform clinical guidelines and the documented variability of methods and outcome of care, including complications, for tracheostomised patients. The aim and research issue of the work is to identify the most important challenges in temporary tracheostomy care, which was done by interviewing medical staff in a single intensive care unit. The research tasks include the analysis of V. Hendersons’ nursing theory and subsequent analysis of literature pertaining to tracheostomy care. Development of a research tool – a semi-structured interview and interviewing medical personell, following which data pooling and analysis was done. The research tool is a semi-structured interview. The identified challenges in tracheostomy care were the variable length of tracheal secretion suction between the respondents, as well as the care of skin in the tracheostomy region. Key words: tracheostomy, care, intensive care unit.
