Abstract

Arheoloģiskās liecības par 14. – 18. gs. apbedīšanas tradīcijām Latvijas teritorijā Kapsētas, kapulauki, apbedīšanas tradīcijas, kapu piedevas, ticējumi Promocijas darbā analizēts arheoloģiski pētīto 14. – 18. gs. apbedīšanas vietu materiāls ar mērķi raksturot pamatiedzīvotāju garīgās dzīves norises pēc mūsdienu Latvijas teritorijas kristianizācijas. Viduslaiku un agro jauno laiku iedzīvotāju reliģiskās dzīves dažādi aspekti līdzšinējos pētījumos galvenokārt aplūkoti vadoties pēc rakstīto avotu un folkloras liecībām. Arheoloģiskais materiāls izmantots pastarpināti un fragmentāri, lai gan tas situāciju ļauj izvērtēt ievērojami objektīvāk un ilgākā laika posmā, sākot no nesenās pagātnes līdz pat aizvēsturei. Arheoloģiskās liecības pilnīgi neatklāj mirušo apbedīšanas rituāla gaitu, tomēr tas ļauj spriest par atsevišķām normām, kas ievērotas sagatavojot, izvadot un pieminot mirušos.

Archaeological evidence of 14th–18th century burial practices in the territory of Latvia Churchyards, cemeteries, burial sites, burial customs, grave goods, beliefs The thesis presents an analysis of material from archaeologically excavated 14th–18th century burial sites, with the aim of characterising the religious life of the indigenous population in the period after the Christianisation of the area of present-day Latvia. In previous research, various aspects of the religious life of the medieval and early modern population have mainly been considered on the basis of written sources and folklore evidence. The archaeological material has been used in a piecemeal fashion, although it provides the possibility of assessing the situation much more objectively and over a longer period of time, from the recent past right back to prehistoric times. Although the whole of the burial ritual cannot be reconstructed from archaeological evidence, it does indicate certain norms that were observed in the course of preparing the deceased for burial, undertaking the burial itself and commemorating the deceased.
