Abstract

Skandināvijas un Austrumeiropas attēlojums arābu un persiešu vēstures avotos. Darbs veikts kā komplekss starpdisciplinārs pētījums, kurā saskaras vēsture, ģeogrāfija, kartogrāfijas vēsture un orientālistika. Darba aktualitāte. Katras atsevišķas jomas speciālisti līdz šim arābu ģeogrāfisko literatūru pētījuši vienīgi no savas, šauras nozares pozīcijām, bet nav apskatījuši to kopumā.Šim fenoenam ir vairēki iemesli: manuskripti bieži publicēti bez tajos esošā kartogrāfiskā materiāla, kā arī arābu rakstības īpatnības apgrūtina identifikāciju. Apskatāmais periods aptver arābu kartogrāfijas zelta laikmetu - .laika posmu no 9. līdz 13.gadsimtam. Šajā laikā attīstīta gan aprakstošā, gan matemātiskā ģeogrāfija. Arābu kartogrāfijā pastāv vairākas skolas, kas veido kartes, izmantojot sengrieķu zinātnes sasniegumus, astronomiskos mērījumus un ceļotāju sniegto informāciju. Darbā detalizēti apskatīts tāds maz pētīts materiāls, kā arābu kartogrāfiskie avoti saistībā ar Austrumeiropu un Skandināviju. Iekļauta informācija no kartogrāfiskā materiāla, kas iepriekš nekad nav apskatīts un publicēts. Rezultātā ar jaunu pieeju iespējams novērst kļūdas un neprecizitātes, kuras ieviesušās, apskatot ģeogrāfiskos tekstus, izslēgt no aprites novecojušus un kļūdainus uzskatus, apskatīt un analizēt arābu viduslaiku autoru rīcībā esošo informāciju par Baltijas jūru un Skandināviju.

Depiction of Scandinavia and Eastern Europe in Medieval Arabic and Persian Historical Sources. My doctoral work is envisaged as a complex multidisciplinary research with the cross points of different disciplines; history, geography, history of cartography, oriental sciences. Specialists of the above mentioned fields until recent times have carried out their research on Arabic geographic literature separately – each in its own specific narrow field, without a complex approach, which is to look at the matter as a wholesome integrity. Frequently manuscripts have been published without their integral cartographic material. Besides, peculiarities of Arabic transcription have made identification of objects difficult. My attention in the work is focused on the time span from the 9th to the 13th century, which is the Golden Age of Arabic cartography. It is the time when the fields of descriptive and mathematic geography experience flourishing, the time when Arabic cartography is represented by several schools, who work at drawing maps using the scientific achievements of ancient Greece, as well as actively apply astronomical measurements and information which were given over to them by travellers. My work comprises information drawn from the cartographic material, which has not been dealt with, researched and published before. In the result, it will allow the researcher to eliminate misinterpretations and do away with mistakes, which in the past have appeared due to the wrong treatment of texts (reading them without maps, which, in fact, are integral part of the texts). This new approach, having a complex vision, enables us to do away with out-dated and wrong presumptions and view and analyse the valuable information, which was at the disposal of Arabic cartographers regarding the Baltic Sea and Scandinavia.
