Abstract

APOKALIPSES TĒMA POSTMODERNAJĀ LITERATŪRĀ (U. EKO, T. PINČONS, G. GRASS, V. SOROKINS) Anotācija Promocijas darbs veltīts apokalipses tēmai postmodernajā literatūrā. Teksta analīzei izvēlēti četru pazīstamu rakstnieku – Umberto Eko (Itālija), Tomasa Pinčona (ASV), Gintera Grasa (Vācija) un Vladimira Sorokina (Krievija) – darbi. Promocijas darbā piedāvāts postmodernā apokaliptiskā diskursa poētikas elementu apraksts, kurš tiek izmantots minēto rakstnieku tekstu analīzē. Darbā mēģināts parādīt, kas ir īpašs apokalipses tēlu un motīvu postmodernajā traktējumā. Promocijas darba aktualitāte ir pamatojama ar 20. gadsimta otrās puses vēsturiskajām parādībām un kultūras īpatnībām: 20. gadsimts ir beidzies ar postmodernisma virskundzību dažādos mākslas veidos, kā arī ar apokaliptiskā noskaņojuma izplatīšanos, kura izcelsme daļēji jāmeklē šausminošajā vēsturiskajā pieredzē, ko atstājuši pagājušā gadsimta politiskie notikumi. Līdz šim brīdim literatūrzinātnē netiek piedāvāta sistemātiska postmodernā apokaliptiskā diskursa analīze, kur atbilstošas teorētiskās bāzes apraksts un daiļdarbu interpretācija atrastos līdzsvarā. THE THEME OF APOCALYPSE IN POSTMODERN LITERATURE (U. ECO, T. PYNCHON, G. GRASS, V. SOROKIN) Abstract The doctoral thesis is devoted to the theme of apocalypse in postmodern literature. Four wellknown writers have been chosen: Umberto Eco (Italy), Thomas Pynchon (The USA), GŅnter Grass (Germany) and Vladimir Sorokin (Russia). The doctoral thesis defines the elements of postmodern apocalyptic discourse poetics which are subsequently used in the analysis of the above-mentioned writers’ texts. The thesis attempts to show the specific character of apocalyptic imagery and motifs employed in postmodern literature. The topicality of the doctoral thesis is based on the historical phenomena and cultural peculiarities of the second half of the 20th century. The period in question was dominated by postmodernism in various types of art as well as by the spreading of apocalyptic moods whose origins are partially to be found in the frightening historical experience left by the political events of the 20th century. Postmodern literature offers a special model of apocalypse which is both similar to and different from the previous eschatological manifestations in the history of culture. In contemporary literary studies there has not yet been offered a systematic analysis of apocalyptic discourse that would have a balanced approach towards theory and practice. The present doctoral thesis aims at filling this gap.
