Vardarbības attēlojums elektroniskajās ziņās

Abstract

Tā kā mūsdienu sabiedrībā vardarbība ir nopietna sociāla problēma, tās atspoguļojums ziņās ir svarīgs. Cilvēki vēršas pie ziņām, meklējot jaunu informāciju, un viņu viedoklis bieži veidojas ziņu iespaidā, tādējādi tas, kā vardarbīgas darbības tajās tiek aprakstītas, ietekmē sabiedrības izpratni par vardarbību. Tāpēc pētījuma mērķis bija izpētīt diskursīvas operācijas, kas mazina vardarbību, un to atrašanās vietu ziņu rakstos par Greisas Milleinas slepkavības tiesas procesu. Diskursa analītiskā metode tika izmantota, lai noteiktu ziņu rakstu funkcionālos elementus, un atklātu diskursīvas darbības, kas mīkstina vardarbību. Deskriptīvā metode un kontentanalīze tika izmantotas, lai iegūtu dziļāku izpratni par diskursīvajām darbībām, kas mīkstina vardarbību. Pētījuma rezultāti parāda to, ka diskursīvās darbības un valoda, kas mazina vardarbību, ir sastopamas deviņos no divpadsmit rakstiem, viss biežāk to atrašanās vieta is kopsavilkums un ziņu raksta galvenais notikums, kas var novest pie maldinoša upura un apsūdzētā attēlojuma tādā veidā, ka lasītājs varētu domāt, ka upuris ir vainīgs pašas nāvē.

As violence is a serious social issue in modern society, its representation of it in news is important. People turn to news in search of new information, and their opinion of the world is often shaped by news. Thus, the way how violent acts are constructed in online news may influence society’s understanding of violence. Therefore, the aim of the study was to explore discursive operations that mitigate violence and their location in the news articles about the murder trial of Grace Millane. The discourse analytical method was used in order to distinguish the functional parts of the news articles and to detect the discursive operations that mitigate violence. Descriptive research and content analysis are used to provide a deeper analysis of the discursive operations that mitigate violence. The results of the study indicated that the discursive operations and the language used that mitigate violence are present in nine out of twelve articles, mostly in the summary and the main event functional parts of the news articles, which may lead to the conclusion that the victim and the accused are misrepresented in a way that the reader might think that the victim is to be blamed for her own death.
