The main subject of this thesis is theoretical and experimental studies of formation and
destruction of Zeeman coherences in atomic and molecular electronic ground states. Firstly,
results of polarization-modulation experiments on the D1 transition in Cs vapor are reported.
Secondly, a spectroscopic method for mapping two-dimensional distributions of magnetic field
strengths using recordings of the fluorescence patterns emitted by spin-polarized Cs vapor was
elaborated. Thirdly, a study of magneto-optical resonances in the ground state of K2 molecule
with large values of the angular momentum quantum number J~100 was done. The dual-mode
frequency stabilization of a diode laser is developed to improve the existing experimental
facility. All obtained results were simulated by appropriate theoretical models adapted and
evaluated in the thesis.
