Abstract
This paper will discuss the limitation of freedom of movement for workers within the European Union in relationship with FIFA’s regulations on the status and transfer of players. The specific Article that will be discussed is Article 17(1) and how it affects professional football players from exercising their freedom of movement that is protected by the EU Treaties. The research shows that there is a discrepancy between decisions taken by the Court of Justice of the European Union and the Court of Arbitration for Sports relating to current FIFA regulations. The paper will suggest that there is a need for ruling in this area in order to ensure that the freedom of movement for worker is respected
