“Debašu kluba” projekts skolēnu debatēšanas prasmju pilnveidei angļu valodā vidusskolā

Abstract

Izglītības procesa dažādošanai un daudzveidīgu mācību metožu realizēšanai, skolotājiem gan mācību plānā, gan ārpus klašu nodarbībās ir jāiekļauj plaša spektra aktivitātes. Pieredze norāda, ka runas prasmes ir viens no svarīgākajiem valodas aspektiem, kura mācīšana jāiekļauj Angļu kā svešvalodas stundās. Ņemot vērā, ka laikā, kad tiek izstrādāts šis diplomdarbs, Latvijā tiek realizēta izglītības sistēmas reforma, tāpēc skolēnu individuālās prezentēšanas, argumentēšanas un publiskās runas spējas ir īpaši aktuālas ik vienam angļu valodas skolotājam. Visas šīs prasmes ir iespējams apvienot un attīstīt, izmantojot apvienojošu mācību metodi: debatēšanu. Šī diplomdarba mērķis ir izpētīt, kā debašu klubs palīdz uzlabot un attīstīt vidusskolēnu debatēšanas prasmes angļu valodā. Pētījums tika realizēts periodā no 2020. gada septembra līdz 2020. gada decembrim. Pētījuma objekti ir 23 vidusskolas skolēni, no kuriem seši tika analizēti padziļināti, jo viņu līdzdalība debašu kluba aktivitātēs bija vislielākā. Diplomdarba rezultāti liecina, ka debašu kluba projekts vidusskolā ir veiksmīga metode skolēnu debatēšanas prasmju angļu valodā attīstīšanai. Šis pētījums nosedz arī aprakstu procesam, kā realizēt ārpus klases nodarbību projektu semestra garumā, kamēr pasauli ir pārņēmusi pandēmija un mācību process notiek attālināti tiešsaistē.

To differentiate education process and cover a wide range of teaching methods, teachers must implement different activities in their curriculums and create successful out-of-class activities. Speaking skills have proved to be one of most important skills to cover in EFL class. With the education reform in Latvia being implemented at the time of this Diploma Paper, developing students` presentation, argumentation and public speaking skills are more topical for in-service English teachers than ever before. All these skills can be successfully developed in conducting a single teaching method: debating. The aim of the Diploma Paper is to explore how a debate club can help to improve secondary school students’ debating skills in the English language. The case study was realised in the period from September to December of the year 2020. The research sample of this case study were 23 Secondary school students, 6 of whom were analysed specifically, because they took part in most of the stages of this case study. Results of the Diploma paper suggest that a Debate Club project is a successful method for developing students` debating skills in the English language. It also covers description of the process of realising a semester long extracurricular project during a worldwide pandemic and remote studies online.
