The aim of this study is to determine whether there is a statistically significant relationship between the vitality, guilt attribution and perception of punishment of imprisoned (male) offenders, as well as differences in variables depending on the type of crime. The study was conducted in collaboration with the Prison Administration. The sample included 42 Latvian-speaking conditionally convicted adult men. Three methods were used to measure the variables: 1) To study the perception of punishment: a survey on the attitude of criminals towards punishment developed within the study of K. Applgate, H. Smith, A. Sitren and N. Springer (Applegate, Smith, Sitren & Springer, 2009); 2) For the study of vitality: Resilience Scale, RS, Wagnild & Young 1993 (linguistically adapted by G.Svence and I.Bērziņa, 2012); 3) The study of guilt attribution: The Revised Gudjonsson Blame Attribution Inventory (GBAI) (Gudjonsson & Singh, 1989). The results of the study show that there is a statistically significant relationship between the life force, guilt attributes and sentencing indicators of imprisoned offenders, as well as the differences between the perpetrators of particularly serious and less serious crimes. Keywords: convicted offender, offender, personality traits, vitality, attitude towards punishment, punishment, guilt attribution.
