The determination of the chemical properties of the soil is important because it directly affects the spread of plants and their ability to feed and grow. The aim of the bachelor thesis is to clarify the concentration of C, N, P, exchange cations (Na+, Mg2+, K+, Ca2+, Al3+, Fe3+, Mn2+) and the pH of the soil mineral surface in the soils of the territory of Latvia. The Bachelors thesis has examined the properties and impacts of the chemical elements on the soil and on growing in it plants. The Bachelors thesis consists of four parts: literature survey, study materials and methods, analysis of the results and conclusion. The description of the literature is divided into three chapters, which include factors affecting soil quality, the chemical properties of the soil and a description of atmospheric pollution and its monitoring using soil. The second part describes the methods and materials of the study. The third part reviews the established maps, comparing them with the maps of the chemical elements of the organic horizon (O) in 2017 and identifying possible causes of the spread of the chemical elements. The Bachelors thesis consists of 28 images, 2 tables and 2 attachments. The study shows that the chemical elements of the mineral surface horizon are lower than those in organic (O) horizon, but the overall distribution indicates that the trend of accumulation on comparable horizons is similar in almost all cases. The main sites with higher values of chemical elements are displayed, so the mineral surface horizon is also allowed for use in environmental monitoring.
