Within the framework of the bachelor's thesis, a study was performed on the determination of the shear resistance of gyttja using vane shear test and the cone penetration method. Measurements were taken in Riga, Zilajā Street 1, measuring undrained soils shear, samples were taken in site for further testing to characterize physical properties of the gyttja. The study examines the values of the soils undrained shear strength of the vane shear test against the static probe, which includes the use of several correlation coefficients to get to shear strength. Laboratory and direct soil research methods were used in the work. Using the data corrections and correlations given in the literature, which are based on the static probe cone water pressure, plasticity index and cone factor, the maximum ground shear was obtained from the static probe vertical resistance data by comparing it with the vane shear test, evaluating the plasticity index as a potential guitar to determine its shear strength.
