Nosaukums: Vielu lietošanas paradumi COVID-19 pandēmijas laikā no 2020. līdz 2021. gadam - interneta aptaujas rezultāti, kas izplatīti ar sociālo mediju starpniecību Autore: Sara Helēna Četrika, BA, RN-BSN Darba vadītāja: Inga Landsmane, Dr.med. narkologs- psihiatrs Priekšvēsture: Pārmērīga alkohola lietošana ir galvenais novēršamo slimību un nāves cēlonis, un tiek lēsts, ka tā ik gadu visā pasaulē izraisa 3 miljonus nāves gadījumu, kas veido vairāk nekā 5% no visiem nāves gadījumiem kopumā. Jaunā koronavīrusa uzliesmojums Vuhaņā, Ķīnā 2019. gada beigās, ātri izplatījās, un PVO 2020. gada 11. martā pasludināja COVID-19 par globālu pandēmiju. Šis bezprecedenta notikums mudināja valstis visā pasaulē īstenot stingrus sociālās distancēšanās pasākumus, cenšoties ierobežot vīrusa izplatīšanos. Šīs pārmaiņas neizbēgami izjauca gandrīz visu cilvēku dzīvi, radot gan nemierus un haosu, gan ekonomisko nenoteiktību un cilvēku pašizolācijas fenomenu. Tas vienlaikus radīja perfektu vidi alkohola pārmērīgas lietošanas un atkarības attīstības epidēmijai neaizsargāto iedzīvotāju vidū. Mērķi: Veikt literatūras apskatu par piejamo aktuālo informāciju alkohola lietošanā un novērtēt alkohola lietošanas tendences COVID-19 pandēmijas laikā. Aptaujas mērķis bija identificēt gan riska, gan aizsargfaktorus alkohola lietošanas paradumos un to izmaiņās, izvērtējot tos. Narcologist- psychiatrist Background: Alcohol abuse is a leading cause of preventable sickness and death and is estimated to contribute to 3 million deaths annually throughout the world, representing more than 5% of all deaths. The outbreak of a novel coronavirus in Wuhan, China in late 2019 quickly spread and the WHO declared COVID-19 a global pandemic on 11 March 2020. This unprecedented event spurred countries around the world to implement strict social-distancing measures in an effort to curb spread of the virus. These changes inevitably disrupted the lives of nearly the entire human population, bringing with it civil unrest, chaos, economic uncertainty, and for many, isolation. This created the perfect environment for an epidemic of alcohol abuse and addiction among vulnerable populations. Objectives: To conduct a literature review on existing data regarding alcohol use during the pandemic in order to inform development of the present online survey assessing alcohol use trends in the time of COVID-19. The survey aimed to identify characteristics and risk factors among those for whom alcohol use increased during the pandemic, and to identify protective factors for those whose use remained the same or decreased. Materials and methods: A short, anonymous internet survey consisting of 23 questions was created using Google Forms and was distributed via social media channels between 23 February – 16 March 2021. The survey collected basic demographic data and asked respondents to assess their alcohol use based on questions from the AUDIT test. Results: Relationships between changes in alcohol usage during the pandemic and independent variables were studied with descriptive statistics and binary logistic regression. Categorical variables were characterized by frequency tables. Main statistical analyses for increases and decreases in alcohol use were performed using binary logistic regression. Independent variables for final models were selected with backward selection, with analysis of responses limited to those from the USA and Finland due to sample size (n=428). Conclusion: Unemployment as a result of the pandemic and a previous psychiatric diagnosis were the strongest predictors of increased alcohol usage in the past year. Additional risk factors included caring for others at home and rating one’s own mental health as poor. Alcohol use increased the most among those aged 26-39 and decreased the most among those aged 18-25. Those living in Finland experienced the greatest decreases in alcohol use overall, while those in the USA experienced the highest increases.
