Palm oil is one of the cheapest and most popular oils in the world. At the same time as there is much discussion about the effects of palm oil on human health, scientists have reason to believe that palm oil increases the risk of certain diseases. The topicality of the topic is determined by the very extensive use of palm oil in food and nutritional supplements, which can have the greatest impact on human health, while becoming a potential risk factor. Therefore, the aim of the study is to conduct a survey among the Latvian population, to find out their opinion and understanding of the effects of palm oil on the body. The results show that it is difficult for respondents to answer about their attitude towards the presence of palm oil in foods and food supplements, and that modern knowledge about palm oil is also contradictory and incomplete.
