Bachelor’s thesis “Patient satisfaction with the information provided by the nurse before and after elective surgery”. Satisfaction studies on recieved health care in United States of America and Europe have proved that clarifying patients opinion has become an integral part of daily healthcare. The results of study conducted in Latvia 2018 on patients satisfaction with received health services indicate the need to improve inpatient care and communication with staff. The aim of thesis – find out patient satisfaction with the information provided by the nurse before and after elective surgery. In work there is summarie and analyse of the literature on interaction, communication, cooperation, patient care during the perioperative period. The theoretical justification is based on Hildegard E. Peplau Interpersonal relations theory, which focuses on the interaction between nurse and patient, relentless flow of information. The study was performed in a regional multi–profile medical institution, gynecology ward, using a quantitative research method. A questionnaire was developed as a research tool. The research process has highlighted the fact that the key role in the information process should be given not to verbal content, but rather to the factors contributing to the information perception and experience, which are emotional support and respect, effective communication and positive attitude, security and privacy. The findings of research affirms hypothesis, which claims that patients are satisfied with the information provided by the nurse both before and after elective surgery.
