With the development of philosophy, social science theory and economics, the attention turned from equality of outcomes to equality of opportunity. While Kuznets curve is not a iron law, there is no pint to test it, it does give us some implications to reflect how “healthy” is our development. The aim of this paper is to study the effect of economic growth from the viewpoint of opportunity egalitarianism. our main hypothesis is “ Economic growth is bad for equality of opportunity in developed countries in a given period.” In terms of the evaluation of equality of opportunity, this paper adopts the model of opportunity Index. GDP per capita is taken as a variable to represent the economic growth. The after depression period (2011-2019) is chosen as the study period. Using the opportunity Index model, 19 indicators in four dimension are selected. We rescaled their values and the opportunity scores are computed for European countries. In the end, a linear regression analysis is made between economic growth and equality of opportunity. Through the empirical application in Europe, the result shows that the moderate negative correlation between economic growth and equality of opportunity does not support our hypothesis. Besides, Europe has a lot of space to foster the integration of European countries and let European citizens have more equal opportunities, especially in the community and health dimension.
