Title of the Diploma Paper: Methods for Developing Minority School Students’ Word-reading Skills in the English Language in Grade 1. Author of the Diploma Paper: Karīna Žantē Scientific supervisor: M. ed. Anita Auziņa Aim of the research: to explore methods for developing minority school students’ word-reading skills in the English language in Grade 1. Research hypothesis: minority school students’ word-reading skills in the English language will be developed more effectively if the lexical approach is used and students regularly do visual and auditory memory activities in the word learning process. In the theoretical part of the research theoretical findings on the importance of visual and auditory memory in the learning process are analysed. In the empirical part of the research the author tests the hypothesis, seeks answers to the research questions and proves the ability to conduct empirical research, using the acquired theoretical knowledge, predicting the development of the problem. Keywords: minority, efficiency, Grade 1, auditory memory, visual memory.
