The author of the bachelor's thesis, Raivo Štrāls, wrote a thesis on the topic “The dispute between Finland and Sweden over the Åland Islands”. The aim of the thesis was to study the causes of the Åland Islands dispute and the significance of the islands from both territorial and economic aspects. The bachelor's thesis is an interdisciplinary study in which, historically, the discussion of political developments is combined with the conduct of a sociological survey and its analysis of these events today. The bachelor's thesis consists of 4 main parts, it consists of 45 pages (without appendices). During the development of the work, in the first chapter, the author described the issue of the Åland Islands dispute from various aspects. In the second chapter the author examined the activities of the League of Nations and in the third chapter the activities of the countries involved in the conflict. In the fourth chapter, based on the conducted surveys and research of questions, the analysis of the obtained results was performed. The thesis includes four figures, ten tables and four appendices. 18 units of the bibliographic list are used in the work. At the end of the thesis, it was concluded that the Åland Island’s dispute has been settled fairly, despite the large Swedish minority living on the islands, the islands historically belong to Finland. Sweden's interest in the islands was largely territorial, as bringing the islands under the control of another country would jeopardize the safety of the Swedish state. The Swedish side's concerns were addressed when the law on demilitarization was reinstated when Åland came under Finnish rule in 1921.
