Bachelor’s work on “Publicity for the main libraries in the Vidzeme region on official websites and on the social network site Facebook”, designed with the aim of comparing the information provided by libraries on their websites and profiles on the social network site Facebook by data analysis and interviewing librarians. The theoretical part explained the terms “social networking site” and “website.” The empirical part of the work analyses and compares the information published on the social network site Facebook profiles and on the official websites of libraries, by indentifying what they choose to publish frequently, how often, and what a user feedback is. The theoretical part of the work was based on Manuel Castells theory of the Network Society and Knowledge Gap Theory. The results of the study indicate utility of these web platforms in communicating with users and creating publicity for libraries. Both websites and profiles on Facebook are frequently used among libraries and librarians are happy to learn new ways of attracting a wider audience through these platforms.
