Abstract
This research covers the standards of interpretation of the European Convention on Human Rights that may be particular to new democracies (defined as the state Parties to the Convention which have transitioned to a democratic form of government more recently in comparison to others). The author outlines the types of standards established by the bodies of the Convention, identifies possible cases of standards that have been established with respect to new democracies, and analyzes the implications of such cases relevant for the implementation of the Convention
