Ekonomiskās izaugsmes novērtēšana Latvijas pierobežā, izmantojot nakts gaismu.

Abstract

Pētījuma mērķis ir aprobēt nakts gaismas datus, lai noskaidrotu vai tie atspoguļo kopējo ekonomiskās aktivitātes līmeni, un izpētīt ekonomisko aktivitāti uz teritorijām pie Latvijas robežas. Pētījumā tiek izmantoti laikrindu dati, pētījuma periods ir 01.01.2014 – 01.11.2021. Datu apstrādei un analīzei tiek izmantotas sekojošas programmas: Google Earth Engine, Stata, un Microsoft Excel. Izmantojot paneļregresijas ar nakts gaismas un ekonomiskās aktivitātes datiem, tiek iegūti statistiski nozīmīgi rezultāti, kuri apliecina, ka pastāv statistiski nozīmīga sakarība starp nakts gaismu un ekonomisko aktivitāti Eiropas valstu dalījumā. Tiek secināts arī tas, ka gan valstu mērogā, gan pierobežas teritoriju mērogā vairākos gadījumos ekonomiskās aktivitātes atšķirības ar laiku samazinās. Turklāt, pētījuma rezultāti apstiprina, ka Latvijas pierobežas ekonomiskā aktivitāte pašlaik atpaliek no Lietuvas un Igaunijas ekonomiskās aktivitātes pierobežā, tāpēc Latvijas pierobežas teritorijām ir ekonomiskās izaugsmes potenciāls, ko valdība turpmāk varētu attīstīt.

The aim of the study is to test the nighttime light intensity data to determine their capacity to reflect the level of economic activity on the territory, as well as to research the economic activity in the areas near the Latvian border. The author applies time-series data of nighttime light intensity for the period of 01.01.2014 - 01.11.2021. The following programs are used for data processing and analysis: Google Earth Engine, Stata, and Microsoft Excel. Using panel regressions with data on nighttime light intensity and economic activity, statistically significant results are obtained, which confirm that there is a significant correlation between night statistics and economic activity by European countries. It is also concluded that, both at the national level and at the level of border areas, in many cases the differences in economic activity decrease over time. In addition, the results of the study confirm that the economic activity on the Latvian border is currently lagging behind the economic activity on the Lithuanian and Estonian border, so there is potential for economic growth in the Latvian border area near mentioned countries that the government could develop in the future.
