Canadian goldenrod (Solidago canadensis), large-leaved lupine (Lupinus polyphyllus), Indian Balsam (Impatiens glandulifera Royle), Sosnowsky’s hogweed (Heracleum Sosnowsky) are widespread invasive plant species in Europe and Latvia as well. The aim of the bachelor's thesis is to study the content of lipid extracts of the mentioned invasive plant seeds, to identify the lipids in the seeds, to promote the use of biomass produced by fast-growing invasive plants in the development and producing of new, innovative products. The results obtained in the experiments allowed to explore the possibilities of use of the generated biological waste. In the course of the work, the seeds of all the mentioned plant species were studied. Plant seeds were extracted using organic solvents – ethyl acetate, dichloromethane and hexane. To investigate content of lipids individual substances were identified and quantified. The study concluded that in the processing of invasive plant seeds, it is possible to isolate different lipid class compounds, the amount of which in the extract differs between different solvents. The analysis of the chemical composition shows that the seed biomass produced by invasive plants is of potentially high value and can be used to develop new products or optimize the production of existing products by assessing the profitability and cost of the ingredients.
