Diet plays an important role in ulcerative colitis, but evidence-based dietary recommendations are still absent. The aim of this study was to evaluate if the Nordic diet improves the symptoms of fatigue and reduces the disease activity of ulcerative colitis. We analyzed how the adherence to the Nordic diet changed during this study and whether higher adherence reduced the parameters of disease activity and fatigue. When followed, the Nordic diet did not show any differences in disease activity but the decline in fatigue level and fatigue impact of daily activities were observed. Also, with higher adherence to the Nordic diet, a reduction of body mass index, as well as waist and hip circumference were observed. Unfortunately, obtained results were not statistically significant. Further studies with larger patient groups are needed to confirm these observations.
