The child is under the guardianship of the parents until reaching the age of majority, therefore the parents must provide the child with nutrition and appropriate environment in which the child can fully develop. Although the state cannot intervene in family relations, it must protect the rights and interests of children. The aim of the work is to study and analyze the legal framework for maintenance, as well as the observance of the interests of children in the provision of maintenance and maintenance recovery cases. The tasks of the work are to study parental duties defined in the legal framework, to analyze the procedures for the recovery of maintenance and state support, comparing the regulatory framework of the Baltic States and Germany in the field of family law. As a result of the research, deficiencies in the legal framework have been identified, therefore amendments have been proposed to Articles 77, 179, 424 of the Civil Law of Latvia, Article 25019 of the Civil Procedure Law of Latvia, Article 13 of Maintenance Guarantee Fund Law of Latvia and Article 170 of the Criminal Law of Latvia.
