Few and incomplete studies have been conducted in Latvia and Europe on the diversity and occurrence of gray seal (Halichoerus grypus) parasite fauna. The aim of the bachelor thesis is to determine the occurrence and diversity of endoparasites of gray seals found in the Baltic Sea. The study found five grey seal endoparasite species – one trematode, two nematode and two hookworm species. The study found that the most common endoparasites in gray seals are Corynosoma semerme (100%) and Contracoecum osculatum (95.2%). Gray seals become infected with these parasites by eating endoparasite intermediate hosts. Infestation with endoparasites can affect the health status of gray seals. Gray seal Shannon-Wiener diversity index of parasite fauna (H=1.4). Age and sex of gray seals are influential factors in the incidence of endoparasite species.
