The master's thesis "Surgical patients’ expectations and experiences of nursing care" was carried out with the aim of clarifying the difference between expectations and experiences of surgical patients in relation to nursing care. Comparison of patient expectations and experience shows the quality of service and satisfaction of patient expectations. To test the hypothesis that surgical patients' expectations of nursing care are higher compared to patients' actual experiences, a quantitative research method was used and adapted for nursing care survey, SERVQUAL. The hypothesis put forward in the study partially confirmed. In seven out of twenty-two criteria, a statistically significant negative average value of service quality was found, which indicates a higher evaluation of patient expectations in nursing care than the evaluation of the received experience. Patient expectations were not met in the dimensions of reliability and responsiveness. A connexity was found between higher ratings of service quality in the dimensions of responsiveness and empathy in postoperative patients.
