Complanate clubmoss Diphasium complanatum and deeproot clubmoss Diphasium tristachyum are rare and protected species in the territory of Latvia. Their hybrid Zeiller's ground-cedar Diphasium × zeilleri is less studied and there is little information about its occurrence in the territory of Latvia. The aim of the work is to find out the morphological characteristics of the species and hybrid of the genus Diphasium and the ecological factors affecting their occurrence. Herbariums available in Riga and Daugavpils were determined and analyzed. In order to understand the factors influencing the occurrence, vegetation characteristics was characterized and the data was analyzed. The results showed that D. × zeilleri was previously misidentified as D. complanatum several times. D. tristachyum is less commonly confused with D. × zeilleri. Species and hybrid of the genus Diphasium can be identified by branch angle and arrangement, lateral leaf, width and length of unattached par of ventral leaf, and sporophyll bract shape.
