The paper is devoted to the forecasting of the Latvian export volume, based on the quarterly and monthly data for years 1995-2002. The structural model describes time series disintegration of such components as trend, cycle and irregular component, such disintegration is named as unobservable components method, which was used for the forecasting. Dynamical system was represented in state space form and using Kalman filter was obtained unobservable components – trend and cycle component. By the EM (Expectation Maximization) algorithm estimations of unknown parameters of state space model or dynamic system were found. Forecasts for 2003 – monthly and quarterly, was constructed. Based on the received forecasts from elaborated structural model, VAR, VEC and ARIMA models the most appropriate models for the forecasting Latvian export volume to the EU were chosen.
The task is fulfilled using softwares EViews, SPSS and MatLab.
