ABSTRACK
The aim of research was to compare the inflammatory changes and the role of local microflora in palatine tonsils in patients with acute and recurrent tonsilltis. Histological material was taken from 36 patients with a history of tonsillitis. Patients were 10 – 18 years old. Patients with recurrent tonsillitis had less T regulatory cells in parafollicular regions compared to acute tonsillitis. Furthermore, IgA and IgG positive celss were decreased in tonsils tissue. Patients with recurrent tonsillitis had more S-100 cells. Recurrent tonsillitis probably results from a lack of mucosal tolerance to mixed commensal microflora-viruses, grampositive and gramnegative bacteria. T regulatory cells could be the morphofunctional biomarker of recurrent tonsillitis.
