In this Bachelor’s Paper I atempt to reveal the meaning of Mk 4:10-12. Since this scripture has its particular context, I provide an exegesis not only of verses 10-12 but also of the parable of the sower (1-9) and its interpretation (13-20). It is shown in this Bachelor’s Paper that in verses 10-12 Jesus doesn’t speak of his parables that seemingly confuse the listeners, but of the fact that without obedience to God and without a relationship to Him, the secret of the Kingdom of God will remain incomprehensible and enigmatic. One cannot say that it was Jesus’ intention to „harden” the listeners because it is stated that they do not understand Him because they are allready „hardened”. This thought is reflected also in the surrounding text of the excerpt (Isaiah 6:9-10) that is included in scripture and it coincides with the entire theology of Isaiah and Mark.
