Latvijas Nacionālo Bruņoto spēku kapelānu dienests pastāv kopš 1993. gada 1. marta, kad AM līgumā tika definēts termins „kapelāns”. Atskatoties divdesmit gadu pagātnē, ir redzama dienesta attīstība un augšupeja, īsā laikā spējo pietuvojoties citu Eiropas valstu armijas kapelānu dienestiem, un izveidojot unikālu četru konfesiju pārstāvētu vidi dienestā. Tā kā NBS spēki dienē ne tikai Latvijā, bet piedalās arī ārvalstu misijās Irākā un Afganistānā, kapelānu darbība tā pat kā Bruņoto spēku darbība ieņem savu lomu pasaules un Eiropas kontekstā.
Pētījuma uzdevums ir apskatīt un analizēt Latvijas Bruņoto spēku kapelānu dienesta pašreizējo situāciju un veikt vēsturisko kapelānu dienesta attīstības izpēti pasaulē un Latvijā. Pētījuma mērķu sasniegšana ļautu izvērtēt dienesta atbilstību teoloģiskajam un vēsturiskajam ietvaram, kā arī sniegtu iespēju iegūt un analizēt pašreizējās darbības raksturojumu.

The purpose of the report is to research and analyze current situation of the Chaplain Service of The National Armed Forces and provide a historical background of the development of Chaplain Services in Latvia and abroad.
