Daudzas no homilētikas rokasgrāmatām lielu uzmanību velta sprediķošanas tehniskajiem aspektiem, novārtā atstājot pašu sprediķošanas pamatojumu, jēgu, pamata uzdevumu. Predikantam pirms kāpšanas kancelē ir jāapzinās viņam uzticētais uzdevums formēt cilvēku draudzē par jauno Kristus pārveidoto personu.
