Topicality of this theme is characterized by the fact that attachment to a criminal offence is not the same as participation, however, these two criminal justice institutions, in different situations, can be difficult to separate; therefore there are cases in jurisprudence when the institution of attachment is confused with the institution of participation. The aim of this bachelor is to explore the concept of attachment to criminal offense, the different types of attachment and problems with its separation from the participation institute. The paper examines the development of attachment to a criminal offense in binding regulations of Latvia, the concept and types of attachment, regulations of attachment to a criminal offense abroad and compares attachment and participation institutes. In this paper, the author developed conclusions and recommendations to improve the institute of attachment to a criminal offense.
