Mūsdienās, dažādu iemeslu dēļ (globalizācija, tiesiskais nihilisms u.c.) laulības institūts zaudē savu nozīmi, un tā svarīgums tiek devalvēts, līdz ar to šis darbs ir aktuāls tāpēc, ka ir pētītas laulības tiesību attīstība un nostiprināšanās gan Eiropā kopumā, gan Baltijā atsevišķi, norādot uz to nozīmi sabiedrības attīstībā. Tieši tāpēc viduslaiku laulību tradīciju īpatnības Baltijā ir aktuāls temats arī mūsdienās. That is why the medieval marriage traditions in the Baltic States is a topical issue today.
