Atslēgas vārdi: identificēšanās ar bezdarbnieku grupu, stresa pārvarēšanas stratēģijas, uztvertais stress, priekšstati par izredzēm atrast darbu, bezdarbs A purpose of research is to investigate connections between self-categorization, perceived stress, coping strategies and unemployed self-reported employment expectations.
The participants are 53 unemployed men in age 20 – 55 years. All of participants were asked by education, experience of being unemployed later and time, what they are in unemployed status.
There are four questionnaires used in research: The COPE Inventory (COPE) (Carver, Scheier, & Weintraub, 1989); Self-categorization scale, taken as an example from Ethnic Identity Scale (EIS) (Valk & Karu, 2001); Perceived Stress Scale (PSS) (Cohen, Kamarck, & Mermelstein, 1983); Self-reported employment expectations scale (Three-item Perceived Job Alternatives index) (Mantler, Matejiecek, Matheson, & Anisman, 2005; Wanberg, 1997).
The purpose of research was attained. There are certain statistical connection between self-categorization, perceived stress and self-reported employment expectations. The hypothesis is confirmed. The higher self-categorization level is in relationship with higher perceived stress and lower self-reported employment expectations.
It was concluded, that where are no statistical connection between self-categorization and coping strategies.
Results also show, that perceived stress and problem focusing coping strategies predict self-reported employment expectations (higher perceived stress and problem focusing strategies results predict lower employment expectations of unemployed).
It is possible to use this results for understanding the specific cases of unemployment situation.
Key words: self-categorization, coping, perceived stress, employment expectations, unemployment
