Abstract
The amount of waste generated in the world and in Latvia is increasing, also the use of landfills. Waste reduction, material reuse and recycling are widely recognized ways of solving the problem with waste. Starting from 2023, the Latvian municipalities will have to collect organic waste, reducing the amount of waste to be disposed of in landfills, etc. The aim of this diploma thesis is to find out the opinion of Riga’s residents about organic waste recycling. Also, to research the current market for organic waste in Latvia. A survey of Riga residents was carried out, in which information was obtained about what kind of waste is sorted in their household, what issues they see with organic waste recycling and how much they would be willing to pay for organic waste recycling.
