Vides simboliskā nozīme mēmajos vesternos

Abstract

Vesterns ir viens no ietekmīgākajiem kinematogrāfiskajiem žanriem. Vesternos izmantotā darbības vide kalpo kā ikoniska vizuālā konvencija (prērijas, bāri, kalni). Mežonīgo Rietumu vide palīdzēja izveidot Amerikas rietumnieka tēlu- jaunatklājēju un cīnītāju, ar kuru Amerika kā nācija personificējas. Šis bakalaura darbs analizēs darbības vidi, kura izmantota trīs amerikāņu mēmajos vesternos „Drū Īgana atgriešanās”, „Debesu augstumā”, „Teksasas Raienas sirds” un noskaidros kā izvēlētā vide saistīta ar vīriešu tēlu atveidi.

Western is one of the most influential genres of cinematic art. Setting used in westerns serves as an iconic visual convention (prairies, saloons, mountains etc.) and it has helped to shape the visual identity of the genre. Setting of the Wild West helped to create image of American westerner- the lawful frontier and fighter, with whom America as a nation personifies. This bachelor paper will analyse settings used in three American silent westerns “The Return of Draw Egan”, “Sky High”, “The Heart of Texas Ryan” and will find out how the chosen settings are connected with the representation of masculine characters.
