Abstract
Criticism in the Wilderness, 1981) raksturotos četrus sieviešu
Darba

Doctoral thesis "Woman in Latvian Prose in the Aspect of Gynocriticism (1960 - 2010)", using gynocriticism's, a branch of feminist criticism, approach to literature, examines how women writers, writing about woman from woman's perspective, find new ways to think about woman and feminine. In the doctoral thesis, an overview of theory and history of gynocriticism - a womancentered way of approaching a literary work - is offered. The main part of the thesis consists of analysis and interpretation of prose texts written in the time period from 1960 to 2010 by Latvian women writers Regīna Ezera, Ilze Indrāne, Ilze Šķipsna, Benita Veisberga, Gundega Repše, Andra Neiburga, Nora Ikstena and Inga Ābele, concentrating on similar themes, characters and images that concern women. Analysis of the texts use four models of difference, which theories of women's writing presently make use of and that are characterized by Elaine Showalter, literary critic that developed the concept and practice of gynocriticism, in her article "Feminist Criticism in the Wilderness" (1981): biological, linguistic, psychoanalytic, and cultural models of difference. According to those models, three major themes in writing by Latvian women authors are explored: women's writing and woman's body; women's writing and women's langage; women's writing and women's psyche, emphasizing how these themes overlap in texts. Keywords: gynocriticism, feminist criticism, women writers, contemporary literature
