Abstract
This thesis researches the legal framework surrounding AI-generated works and the copyright protection. The traditional doctrine on copyright is now at stake as never before, with increasing urgency and the demand for appropriate changes in the light of growing development of new types of artificial intelligence technologies. The main objectives are to define artificial intelligence, compare different adoptions of definition, evaluate the current system, investigate case-law and approaches adopted by the courts and finally answer the question whether the EU copyright system needs to be adjusted. However, this thesis reviews the various legal barriers preventing effective enforcement. Lack of clarity on legislation against AI can hinder innovation and investment in AI research for economic growth in this rapidly growing industry.
