Translation and Psychometric Evaluation of the Latvian Version of the Index of Dental Anxiety and Fear (Idaf-4c+ )

Abstract

Zobārstniecības trauksme var būt par pamatu sliktam mutes veselības stāvoklim ar augstu kariesa intensitāti, lielu trūkstošo zobu skaitu, periodonta veselības pasliktināšanos (van Wijk & Hoogstraten, 2003), kā arī sliktu mutes dobuma higiēnu (DeDonno, 2012). Tāpēc zobārstniecības trauksmes veiksmīga identifikācija ir izteikti svarīga un tam ir izveidoti dažādi psihometriskie novērtējuma instrumenti. IDAF-4C+ ir viens no visnesenāk izveidotajiem psihometriskajiem zobārstniecības trauksmes novērtēšanas instrumentiem. Šī pētījuma mērķis ir tulkot un starpkulturāli adaptēt IDAF-4C+ latviešu valodā, pielietot to ikdienas zobārstniecības praksē, noteikt tā uzticamību un izpētīt zobārstniecības trauksmes vecuma un dzimumu atšķirības.

Dental anxiety is associated with poor oral health outcomes due to higher caries prevalence and severity, increased number of missing teeth, worsened periodontal status (van Wijk & Hoogstraten, 2003) and reduced oral hygiene status (DeDonno, 2012). Successful identification is, therefore, highly important, and numerous psychometric assessment tools have been developed for that purpose. The IDAF-4C+ is one of the most recently developed psychometric dental anxiety assessment tools. The aim of this study is translation and cross-cultural adaptation of the IDAF-4C+ to Latvian in order to apply the Latvian IDAF-4C+ version in routine dental practice, determine its reliability, and explore the differences in dental anxiety levels across genders and age.
