Abstract

The goal of this bachelor paper was to look into language peculiarities in unedited and edited video blogs by Toby Joe Turner and Philip de Franco according to Discourse analysis, use of hedging and time-fillers, and Critical Discourse Analysis. Vlogging as a genre was chosen for research, as the popularity of this media type is on the increase and it represents informal spoken discourse. The background and history of both vloggers and types of videos created were investigated. The content for analysis was acquired through manual transcription of the videos. The practical part showed that the impact of hedging on the texts is not as notable, the presence and peculiarities of lexical fillers use varies depending on each of the speakers’ speech properties, and vlogs contribute to the relations between discursive and social developments. Keywords: video blogging, critical discourse analysis, hedging, time-fillers, unedited videos, edited videos
