Modālo darbības vārdu un tiem pielīdzināmo vārdu un frāžu lietojums laikrakstā „The Guardian”

Abstract

Modālo darbības vārdu un tiem pielīdzināmo vārdu un frāžū lietojums laikrasta rakstos var atklāt rakstnieka attieksmi un viedokli pret paziņotiem faktiem. Šī bakalaura darba mērķis ir analizēt modālo darbības vārduun tiem pielīdzināmo vārdu un frāžū lietojumu laikrakstā „The Guardian”. Metode, kas tika izmantota darbā ir kvantitatīvā un kvalitatīvā analīze. Praktiskā daļa ir balstīta uz 15 rakstu analīzi, kas bija ņemti no laikraksta “The Guardian”. Rezultāti parādīja, ka modālie darbības vārdi, kā arī citi pielīdznināmie vārdi, tiek bieži izmantoti, un tiem irdažādas nozīmes tekstā. Tika konstatēts, ka visbiežāk izmantotie modālie darbības vārdi ir will, would and could. Modālie darbības vārdi will un wouldir izmantoti, lai izteiktu prognozes nozīmi, balstoties uz faktiem, kasir zināmi rakstītājam, turpretī could izsaka iespējas nozīmi.

The use of modal verbs and modal-verb related words and phrases in newspaper articles may reveal the writer’s attitude and opinion towards the reported facts.The goal of the Bachelor Thesis is to analyze the usage of modal verbs and modal-verb related words and phrases in the newspaper ‘The Guardian’. The method that is used in the paper is quantitative and qualitative analysis. The empirical part is based on the analysis of 15 articles taken from the newspaper ‘The Guardian’. The results have shown that modal verbs andmodal-verb related words and phrases are frequently used, and they perform different meanings. It was found out that the most frequently used modal verbs are will, would and could. The modals will and would fulfill the meaning of prediction, based on the facts known to the writers, whereas could has the meaning of marking possibility.
